It’s been a busy and productive summer for The Dreamer’s Outlet. As a family business, my sister (Chief Operations and Financial Officer, or COFO as we so affectionately like to sound out) has been putting in long days of web building and strategic planning. Which means her 7-year-old daughter gets to spend her summer mornings with our mother, Gigi. At Gigi’s there is always a project to do, books to read, critters to feed and tools to tickle the imagination. Last week, Syrianna made an imaginary friend out of a rock and Gigi got the idea to paint a little animal on it. Here is what Gigi and Syrianna did that turned into so much fun!...
The brushes and heavy body acrylics we had on hand at the time did not lend for a strong attempt at recognizable rock creatures, so Gigi pulled on her thinking cap and opened Amazon. This set of paint pens comes with a beautiful array of colors. The set includes both, fine tip options and medium tip. They used the Medium tips for coloring in big spaces or filling in the background. They used the fine tips for drawing in the shapes and details. The fine tip pens were the best for writing words as well. The paint goes on smooth and dries within a few minutes. One of the biggest wins for this set is that the paint is fairly opaque when applied to a dry surface. They were able to paint light colors over dark colors once the base layer of paint was dry and even use white lettering over a spectrum of colors.
The first attempt at the project began with Syrianna collecting rocks from our rock garden. Not only were we creating a bald spot in the rock bed but we also found those particular rocks were too bumpy and unfinished to fashion the details they had in mind. So back to the drawing board (aka, Amazon and Pinterest). Gigi had these stones delivered the next day. They found them to be exactly what they needed to achieve the look they were going for. They are smooth, light in color and just the right size for a rock friend. With all the right tools, inspiration took over and here are some of our best rock buddies.
